About Sevena

Sevena is a 27 year old woman from Montana. She is passionate about video games, art, cooking, and photography. Sevena was born with congenital cataracts, a visual impairment that results in the cloudiness of the eye’s natural lens.

In some cases, contact lenses fitted on the eye’s surface (cornea) may be used to help restore vision after the natural lens is removed during cataract surgery. Due to a surgical complication when she was 2 months old, Sevena will never be able to have this procedure.

Sevena had a difficult time completing daily tasks that most sighted people can do with ease. She mentioned that many thought of her as a “liability.” “My parents had no idea how to handle it. And my teachers were confused as to how they could teach me certain material,” she remembered. While growing up, Sevena did not have access to devices that could help her to keep up with normally-sighted individuals. But all of this changed when she was introduced to IrisVision.

“My friends started a fundraising page to purchase the IrisVision for me. In just a few days we reached our goal,” she said.

“When I put it on I started freaking out, I could actually see!”

Sevena now has a social media account dedicated to posting pictures she takes with her device’s photo gallery feature. “I take pictures of everything! I believe you will never see the same thing twice,” Sevena said.

Sevena mentioned that she enjoys using all of the modes the IrisVision headset has to offer. The bubble mode helps her read well and the video player happens to be her favorite pastime. “As a video-gamer, I am constantly looking forward to learning new techniques through videos. Therefore I use my device to learn as much as I can.”
