Medicare and Medicaid are two US institutions that provide health coverage for the elderly, differently abled persons, and for people with very low incomes. Though they do usually cover expenses related to eye examination, they do not reimburse for any low vision devices.
Some private insurance companies do exist that provide options for reimbursement for both low vision eye examinations as well as medical consultation. IrisVision low vision devices are available free of charge to qualifying veterans as a covered cost from the Veterans Army.
