A complete eye exam is essential for diagnosing Stargardt disease. Doctors look for yellowish flecks in the macula, often arranged in a ring. Additional tests might include visual field testing to map your entire vision, electroretinography to measure the retina’s response to light, fundus photography to capture images of the back of the eye, optical coherence tomography for detailed retinal scans, and color testing to assess your color vision as it can be affected later in the disease.
