The annual AOA Optometry’s Meeting is a platform where specialists, doctors, and students of optometry, come together with paraoptometrics and industry leaders with an aim to contribute to the existing efforts in the advancement of the latest ophthalmic research and practice.  

The annual event offers contemporary industry insight, optometric knowledge, and education as well as professional development with the opportunity to network with industry professionals and optometry’s leaders.

This will be the 124th Annual AOA Meeting & the 51st Annual AOSA Conference: scheduled to be held on June 24th-26th, 2021, in Denver, Colorado, at the Colorado Convention Center. 

Brief History About The American Optometric Association (AOA):

The American Optometric Association was founded back in 1898, with an effort to take a leading role towards effective patient care with respect to vision care

Currently, the associate represents over 44,000 doctors of optometry (O.D.), optometric professionals, and optometry students.

To provide opportunities to collaborate and network between doctors and practitioners of optometry in the best possible way- the AOA Optometry’s Meeting was initiated, AOA developed partnerships with Think About Your Eyes (TAYE), InfantSEE® and The Health Care Alliance for Patient Safety (APS) as well as constituted sub-entities that include:

An Affiliate Body Of The American Optometric Association – The American Optometric Student Association 

A membership at AOSA enables students of optometry to avail networking tools, latest research and knowledge on new laws, access to AOA Focus publications etc. 

With its first congress held in 1971 – AOSA has been helping students explore their respective fields and prepare them to take on the role of a healthcare provider. This is done in 4 ways:

  • AOSA Optometry Student Bowl™:

    A competition that will host around 25 schools and colleges to compete for the high-speed game of optometric knowledge

    When: Friday, June 25, 7:00pm 

  • AOA+ Leadership Link 

    A networking program that connects current students, graduating students and new doctors helping them to make a smooth transition from an optometry student into a role as an Optometrist.

  • AOA+ Pop-up Sessions 

    Education sessions are designed specifically for students and new doctors covering a range of topics from becoming an advocate for your profession to overcoming student debt to interactive workshops.

  • AOA+ Residency And State Affiliate Summit 

    The Residency and State Affiliate Summit enables young healthcare professionals to meet and interact with residency directors, doctors in order to learn about new emerging opportunities.

  • Exhibit Hall Special Events 

    The Exhibit Hall will feature emerging innovations in the field of vision care and a chance to connect with industry leaders and companies. Visit the exhibit hall to find breakthrough low vision solutions like the IrisVision Live (that uses VR technology to amplify leftover vision for the legally blind and visually impaired) at Booth no. 805

  • Optometry Cares® 5k Run/Walk 

    Organized by The AOA Foundation – the 3.1-mile run or walk will give a chance to unwind, enjoy, and network with a beautiful view. 

    The entry fee of $30 comes with a performance-blend T-shirt and a 5K medal. Top age-division finishers and overall winners will also receive awards 

    When: Saturday 6:00-7:30 AM

  • Celebration Of Optometry

    To conclude the amazing event and the annual conference – the evening will be celebrated with food and live entertainment. 

    When: Saturday 7:00 -10:00 PM

    Topics will focus on providing the best in patient care in the times of the Covid-19 outbreak. Highlighting the importance of Vaccination administration and expanding the COVID-19 vaccine workforce to include doctors of optometry. 

    This includes a series of courses that will cover Red Cross CPR/AED certification and intramuscular injection administration.

    The participants of the 2021 Optometry Meeting will be offered surgical courses that will follow hands-on application as well as the necessary didactic components that support the practice of injections and sutures in an office setting.

    One of the Practice Success panels at the Optometry’s Meeting will focus on the COVID-19 health crisis and its subsequent impact on the practice of optometry.
